KISSIMMEE, FL -- #11 Rowan walked it off against Wheaton, crossing a run in the bottom of the seventh to win 4-3, and later posted an 8-2 victory over Arcadia as the Profs won both contests on Wednesday down at The Spring Games.
After the Profs tied it up at 3-3 in the sixth against Wheaton, Rowan had runners on second and third in the seventh.
Cat Thomas hit a screamer to first base, but the throw home was not in time as
Zara MacNair scored to win it.
Both MacNair and
Kaitlyn Riggs had two hits for Rowan.
Cat Thomas hit an RBI double in the third to plate
Liz McCaffery for a 1-0 lead.
Starter
Rylee Lutz allowed just two baserunners over the first five innings before running into trouble in the sixth. Grace DiBacco delivered a two-run double and later in the frame would score from third to help give the Lyons a 3-1 advantage.
Rowan put together two runs in the bottom half, first on a RBI single from Riggs that scored
Payton MacNair. Now with a pinch runner at third and one out, pinch hitter
Cami Morgan grounded out to second, but not before
Hannah Bryszewski trotted home to knot it up at 3-3.
Emily McCutcheon worked out of a spot in the seventh as a lead off baserunner was stranded at third, setting the stage for the bottom half.
Against Arcadia, Rowan scored all of its runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings to break open a scoreless contest. McCutcheon went the distance, fanning a career-high nine batters with just one walk on six hits and two runs.
Zara MacNair,
McKenzie Melvin, and
Morgan Tripodi all had two hits apiece. Melvin scored twice while Tripodi cranked a solo homer in the sixth. MacNair and Melvin also stole two bases each.
Morgan's pinch hit RBI double in the fifth kickstarted a three spot for the Profs.
But the Knights countered with two runs, both off an RBI double from Nathlalia DiIanni to cut the lead to just one run.
Tripodi made it 4-2 with her second career home run, and first against her old team.
Four hits and two Arcadia errors in the seventh led to four more runs to give the Profs some breathing room.
The team closes out its spring break trip on Friday with games against SUNY-Geneseo (11 a.m.) and Lake Forest (1:30 p.m.).
