#11 Softball Earns Split with Swarthmore and St. Scholastica

KISSIMMEE, FL -- #11 Rowan responded to a 4-0 defeat to Swarthmore with a 10-0 shutout win over St. Scholastica as the Profs split its two games on Tuesday.

The Profs, now #11 in the latest NFCA Division III Poll, took on the Garnet in the day's first game. Swarthmore used an RBI single in the fourth and a bases-loaded clearing double in the fifth from Avery McClure.

McKenzie Melvin had three of the team's four hits while Liz McCaffery walked twice.

Swarthmore's Emily Bertrand walked four and fanned one in the complete game win. Rylee Lutz threw into the fourth, striking out five with three walks and the one run on five hits.

Against St. Scholastica, Melvin collected four hits, including a solo home run as the Profs pounded out 12 hits en route to the five-inning win.

Melvin and McCaffery scored twice with teammates Cat Thomas and Kaitlyn Riggs each driving in two runs.

Melvin led off the game with a solo homer to left and later Thomas hit an RBI double to stake the Profs to a 2-0 edge. After loading the bases in the second but not scoring, Rowan came through in the third as Riggs, Breanna Bryant, and Grace Shukaitis each knocked in a run.

Two more runs crossed in the fourth and three more in the fifth for the Profs.

Emily McCutcheon and Lutz combined on a two-hitter as Rowan posted its fourth shutout of the season.

The team is back at it on Wednesday with games against Wheaton at 10 a.m. followed by a matchup against Arcadia.
