DAVENPORT, FL - #16 Rowan scored six runs in the second inning, and hit three home runs, en route to an 11-3 win over Salem State (1-2) at the RussMatt Invitational, for the Profs' sixth straight win.
Jason Morgan,
Phil Sedalis and
Dylan Maria each hit the round-trippers for Rowan (6-1).
Jake Reese earned his first victory of the year, going four innings and striking out five while relievers
Charlie Russell,
Sean Colbert and Maria kept the Vikings from adding any runs through the final five innings.
Rowan trailed briefly as Salem State's Mark Smith hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first.
Jason Morgan tied it on the Profs' first at-bat of the second inning to score the first of six consecutive runs. The Profs also scored two on an error and got an RBI double from
Mason Dorsey, an RBI triple by
Tyler Cannon and a sacrifice fly from Sedalis to go up 6-1.
The Vikings added two more in the fourth, but Sedalis sent one over the fence for a two-run shot in the seventh that scored Cannon and gave Rowan an 8-3 lead. Maria finished it off with his team-high seventh homer of the season, a three-run shot in the ninth that brought home Cannon and Sedalis.
Sedalis, Cannon, Morgan each had two hits, as did shortstop
Joey Bogart as he picked up his first career hits in his first start at Rowan.
The Profs get a day off on Tuesday and then resume play on Wednesday when they face Ohio Northern at 9 a.m.
