DAVENPORT, FL -
Phil Sedalis had four hits and drove in three runs to help #16 Rowan defeat Penn State Abington, 12-3, at the RussMatt Invitational, as the Profs won their fifth straight game and improved to 5-1 on the season.
Sedalis went 4-for-6 with three RBI and scored a run with
Jason Morgan going 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI.
Dylan Maria and
Nick Struble drove in two runs each.
Matt Choi threw five innings, striking out five and allowing just one run, to pick up his first win of the year.
Rowan jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first, as Maria hit a two-run double and Morgan brought him home with a single.
PSU Abington (2-8) got one back in the bottom half of the inning but the Profs answered back with three more on a two-run single by Sedalis and then when
Pat Defeciani reached on an error to give Rowan a 6-1 lead.
The Profs added a run each in the fourth, thanks to an RBI double by
Karson Harcourt and then one in the sixth, after an RBI single by
Mason Dorsey.
Rowan took a 10-run advantage, 12-1, in the eighth as
Nick Struble hit a two-run double and then scored on a wild pitch.
Penn State Abington extended the game when Ja'nai Vaughan hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth.
The Profs saw a trio of newcomers from the bullpen -
Jaxon Casdia,
Nick Cugino and
Jayson Dougherty - closing out the game.
Rowan will play its only night game of the week on Monday, facing Salem State at Northeast Regional Park, with first pitch slated for 7 p.m.
