#5 Softball Suffers a Pair of Defeats at #2 Salisbury, 6-3 and 3-0

SALISBURY, MD -- #5 Rowan and #2 Salisbury clashed in a doubleheader on Friday with the Sea Gulls taking both contests, 6-3, and 3-0 in a rematch of two NCAA Championship teams from a year ago.

Game one
The Profs built a 3-1 lead in the in the top of the fourth before the home team cut it to one run in the bottom half. Salisbury added four runs in the fifth, three coming off a bases-loaded clearing double from Meghan Reed.

After the teams traded runs in the first, Cat Thomas led off the third with a homer to left for a 2-1 lead. In the next frame, Breanna Bryant drew a bases loaded walk to add to the advantage.

Reed would single in a run in the bottom half before her two-out, three-run double. Rowan would leave 14 left on base, as the Profs threatened in the first six innings.

Thomas and Liz McCaffery each had two hits while Bryant walked twice.

Starter Rylee Lutz allowed two earned runs while yielding six hits and six walks. She struck out four.

Game two
Salisbury's Nicole Ortega limited the Profs to six hits with two walks and six strikeouts. The Sea Gulls plated all three runs in the third on a home run and a pair of RBI singles.

Payton MacNair was 2-for-3 with a double for the Profs. Starter Emily McCutcheon walked four batters and fanned three while allowing 11 hits in the decision.

The Profs will head to Florida for its Spring Break trip with action starting on Friday, March 8th in games with Marietta and Ursinus.
