NJAC Selects Herlihy, Brown, Gantt, Ross, Jones, and Pennington for Weekly Awards

PITMAN, NJ -- Kate Herlihy, Jamir Brown, Jamile Gantt, Chris Ross, Nyla Jones, and Ella Pennington all were cited by the New Jersey Athletic Conference in its weekly awards for the week ending December 8th.

Herlihy was named the NJAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week after shooting over 58% from the floor (20-of-34) while averaging 17.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.6 steals, and 3.0 assists in a 3-0 week. Last Monday, she netted a game-high 23 points on 9-of-12 shooting along with seven boards, five assists, and three steals in a 77-38 win at Gwynedd Mercy. In Wednesday's win over Rutgers-Camden Herlihy scored 16 points, adding four rebounds, four steals, and three assists. On Saturday at NJCU, she went for 14 points, six boards, and four steals. The senior currently leads the NJAC in scoring (16.1 ppg).

The Profs swept all three men's indoor track & field honors, beginning with Brown who was named the NJAC Track Athlete of the Week. The freshman broke the Division III indoor record in the 60 meter hurdles in Saturday's season opening meet at the Fasttrack Season Opener in a time 7.72. Competing in his first indoor T&F meet ever, Brown shattered the 10-year mark as his time in the finals gave him the top mark. Salisbury's Luke Campbell held the previous best time of 7.74 set in 2014.

Gantt scored the NJAC Field Athlete of the Week after producing the top mark in Division III as well as a PR in winning the high jump with a top mark of 2.09 meters.

Ross picked up the NJAC Rookie of the Week honor as the first year ran a 6.89 in the 60 meters, which was good for the #13 fastest time in Division III.

Jones was selected as the NJAC Women's Indoor Track & Field Rookie of the Week, making her collegiate debut on Saturday at the TCNJ Season Opener at the NYC Armory. Jones took third in the 60 meter hurdles (9.23) after clocking a 9.17 in the prelims. The freshman also ran 42.96 in the 300 meters (14th place) and was part of the 4x400 relay that was third (4:04.66)

For the fourth week in a row and fifth time this season, Pennington is named the NJAC Women's Swimmer of the Week. The junior led the Profs in sweeping both the 100 (56.66) and the 200 backstroke (2:01.24) in the meet at #13 Johns Hopkins on Friday. Her mark in the 200 back is JHU pool record as well.

Women's Basketball (5-2, 3-0 NJAC) puts its four-game win streak on the line on Wednesday when the Profs play at Kean before a home Saturday matchup vs. William Paterson. Both the men's and women's track & field teams and both men's and women's swimming teams will resume action next month.
