Khalif Meares scored 26 points and
Chris McCarron hit for a career-high 20 points as Rowan (4-3; 3-1 NJAC) held off a late charge by Kean (3-6; 2-2) to hold on for the 90-84 win in NJAC men's basketball play.
Meares made 11-of-15 from the foul line, including key free throws down the stretch, and contributed six rebounds and three steals. McCarron made 8-of-12 field goals, including four three-pointers, for his personal best total.
Tyrese Myrick scored 18 points off the bench and freshman
Brycen Williams posted a season-high 10 points in the win.
Rowan led, 86-80, after a free throw by Meares with :32 left, but Kean stayed in the game and cut it to 88-84 with 17 seconds to play on a layup by Justin Morton. Meares sealed the win with two more free throws with 13 seconds remaining.
The Profs led the entire second half, and started to break open the game midway through the half as McCarron hit a three-pointer at 10:35 to give Rowan a 66-62 lead. That started a 15-4 run for the Profs, ending in a three from Williams, that upped Rowan's advantage to 78-66 with over six minutes remaining.
But Kean outscored Rowan, 10-3, and pulled within 81-76 with just under three minutes to play. Meares played a key role in helping seal the win by making five free throws in the final 32 seconds.
In the first half, Rowan built up an 11-point lead, 45-34, with 1:16 remaining in the half, before Kean scored the final six points to cut its deficit to 45-40 at intermission.
Next up for Rowan is a home game on Saturday against William Paterson at 3 p.m.
