EWING, NJ – The #12 Rowan field hockey team was edged by #24 TCNJ, 3-2, on a late goal in the conference opener for both teams. The loss is Rowan's first in conference play since a loss to TCNJ on October 22, 2019.
The Profs (5-5; 0-1 NJAC) held a 2-1 lead early in the third quarter but TCNJ rallied for a pair of goals in the fourth quarter. The gamewinner was scored by Ryanhanah Ahmed off a corner at 57:19.
Rowan scored first on a penalty corner as
Amber Powell sent the entry pass to
Julia Cavicchio, who blasted a shot from just inside the circle into the cage at 10:47.
TCNJ (6-3; 1-0) tied it four minutes later as Carly Cole scored on a corner with the assist from Ahmed.
The Profs went ahead, 2-1, as Cavicchio sent a long pass and into the circle and
Sidney Pavlishin deflected it in at 33:19.
The Lions tied the game again at 48:14 on a goal by Gianna Downs and then with less than three minutes to play, capitalized on the corner to earn the win.
Rowan held a 14-10 edge in shots, but TCNJ had the advantage in corners, 8-7.
Erin Flynn made two saves in goal for the Profs.
The Profs return home after a four-game road swing to host Stockton on Wednesday, October 4
th.
