HAVERFORD, PA – #10 Rowan saw its rally fall short as Haverford picked up a 4-3 win over the Profs in non-conference field hockey action this evening.
Vanessa DiDonato had two goals to lead Rowan (4-3).
Haverford scored two goals in the first nine minutes, by Naomi York and Erica Pardon, to take a quick 2-0 lead. DiDonato got the Profs on the board with an unassisted goal at 14:46.
The Fords (4-2) continued the scoring, as York and Pardon again reached the back of the cage, giving Haverford a 4-1 lead in the first 20 minutes.
DiDonato notched her second goal of the game, and team-best seventh of the year, to cut the Profs' deficit to 4-2 before halftime.
Rowan continued to apply the pressure throughout the second half, as the visitors held a 10-4 margin in shots, and an 8-3 advantage in penalty corners.
The Profs pulled to within 4-3 with 10 minutes to play in the game as
Cienna Bosher notched her first goal of the year, after she put in a loose ball on a corner. But the Profs could not get the tying goal.
Erin Flynn played 41 minutes in goal for Rowan in relief of starter
Aida Ingram, and did not allow any goals. Flynn made one save on the day with Ingram posting two as Rowan held a 20-10 edge in shots.
Rowan will play its second game on the road on Saturday when it travels to Cabrini for the final meeting with the Cavaliers.
