Volleyball Taken Down by Cortland and St. Lawrence on Final Day of Red Dragon Classic

CORTLAND, NY -- Rowan fell in both matches on Saturday at the Cortland Red Dragon Classic, as the Profs suffered a 3-0 loss to the host Red Dragons and a 3-2 decision to St. Lawrence.

Against Cortland (25-20, 25-8, 25-14), the Profs totaled 24 kills, (hitting.136) with 10 from Jena Kaul. Brooke Adams assisted on 20 of those 24 kills.

Trailing 22-19 in the first set, a kill from Kaul looked to get things started but Cortland ran off three of the next four points to go up 1-0. Down 2-0 heading into the third set, the Red Dragons put together a 13-4 run helping give the home team the win.

Kaul kept the hot hand against St. Lawrence (25-23, 25-22, 23-25, 13-25, 15-8)  as the sophomore collected a career-best 22 kills but the Profs could not finish the rally from a 2-0 deficit. Kaul (16 digs) and Adams (41 assists/10 digs) each posted double-doubles as

Rowan posted a 53-25-160 hitting line (.175). The two teams battled through 25 ties and 11 lead changes throughout the five sets.

The first three sets were decided by a total of just seven points, but Rowan forced a fifth and deciding set thanks to a 10-3 spurt end the fourth set. St. Lawrence led 6-5 in the final set, but went on a 9-3 stretch to close it out.

Rowan will have its home opener next Saturday, September 9th as part of a tri-match with Widener and Catholic beginning at 10 a.m.
