Game Highlights
GLASSBORO, NJ -- Starter
Rylee Lutz fired a three-hit, nine-strikeout performance and
Payton MacNair delivered a big two-out, two-run double in the fifth to help lift #16 Rowan to a 2-0 win over Stockton in the second round of the 2023 New Jersey Athletic Conference Tournament on Tuesday.
With the win, the Profs will now take on TCNJ here on Friday at 11 a.m. as the remainder of the tournament shifts to Glassboro. Friday's second game at 1 p.m. will pit Ramapo vs Kean in an elimination game with the winner advancing to play the loser of the first game at 3 p.m. The two teams that remain after Friday will meet on Saturday to determine the NJAC Champion.
Lutz, who also set a career-high earlier this season with 14 strikeouts against the Ospreys back on April 18th, fanned at least one batter in every inning to improve to 21-2 on the year.
After getting two on in the fourth but coming away empty, the Profs rebounded in the fifth to take the lead. A one-out walk to
Abigail Pawlowski, later followed by a bloop single to right from Grace Shukatis would put runners on the corners with two outs. MacNair lined a ball to right just under the glove of the right fielder to allow Pawlowski and a hustling Shukaitis to score.
The Ospreys looked to counter in the bottom half of the fifth, getting two on before Lutz recorded back-to-back K's. In the sixth, MacNair flashed the leather with a leaping grab on a liner above her head at short with a runner on to end the frame.
Charli Czaczkowski had two of the three Stockton hits, including a double in the fourth as the Ospreys were knocked out of the postseason with the loss.
Tuesday's other games saw TCNJ take down Ramapo, 7-3, and Kean eliminating William Paterson, 5-2.
