NEWARK, NJ -- #15 Rowan extended its win streak to six game after Friday's NJAC sweep at Rutgers-Newark. The Profs won game one, 7-1, and the second 9-0 in five innings.
Game one
A five-run first inning helped get things off on the right foot a five different players each drove in a run.
Rylee Lutz allowed one run on just three hits with eight strikeouts and three walks in going the distance to improve to 12-2.
Korie Hague,
Breanna Bryant,
Devyn DiPasquale, and
Grace Shukaitis all had two hits apiece.
Payton MacNair scored twice while
McKenzie Melvin doubled in the sixth.
The Profs added a run in the sixth as MacNair scored on a passed ball and again in the seventh as DiPasquale's infield hit brought home
Abigail Pawlowski.
Rutgers-Newark's Keelin O'Brien knocked in her team's only run in the third with a single to left.
Game two
Rowan used big innings in the third and the fifth to improve to 23-3 and 6-0 in conference play.
Melvin was 3-for-4 with Bryant driving in a game high three RBI's. In that third, back-to-back-to-back doubles from Melvin,
Liz McCaffery, and
Cat Thomas helped generate two runs. Bryant added a two-run double later in the frame with two outs to add to the lead.
The Profs used three hits, three walks and a Scarlet Raider error to score five runs in the fifth.
Starter
Emily McCutcheon threw into the fifth yielding one hit and no walks with two K's.
Marina Costello wrapped things up in the fifth to lock up the sweep.
Rowan returns home to face off with The College of New Jersey starting at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday in a rematch of last season's NJAC Title game.
