Game 1 Highlights
GLASSBORO, NJ -- #14 Rowan battled Ramapo to a NJAC Doubleheader split on Tuesday as the Profs took game one, 8-0, but fell, 6-2 in the second. The loss snaps a 15-game win streak for the squad.
Game one
Korie Hague and
Abigail Pawlowski each knocked in two runs and
Liz McCaffery walked twice and scored twice as the Profs got a three-run fifth inning and added runs in the fourth and fifth to end it.
Rylee Lutz allowed just one hit and two walks with three strikeouts in five innings of work to move to 18-2 on the year. The sophomore grinded through a 39-pitch first inning that saw 19 foul balls as well. Lutz would then limit the Roadrunners to three baserunners the rest of the way.
Hague,
Payton MacNair,
McKenzie Melvin, and
Breanna Bryant all had two hits apiece. Hague's RBI single in the third opened the scoring for the Profs, but the team went on to total seven hits in the inning to cross five runs. Pawlowski added a two-run single plus RBIs from
Grace Shukaitis and MacNair put the home team ahead, 5-0.
Hague struck again in the fourth along with a run-scoring hit from Bryant upped the lead to 7-0. McCaffery's sac fly to score MacNair in the fifth gave Rowan the eight-run rule victory.
Game two
Tied 1-1 in the fifth, Ramapo plated four runs in the inning highlighted by Avery Bartolomeo's two-run home run to take the lead for good.
Cat Thomas had two of the Prof's five hits while she and Bryant each drove in a run.
After the Roadrunners took a 1-0 lead in the first, Rowan countered with a run in the third thanks to Bryant singling home Hague. The Profs looked to add another run in the fourth, getting a lead-off single from Thomas, who was pinch ran for, then moving to third base with one out. Ramapo starter Kassy Stefanski induced back-to-back flyouts to leave the home team empty.
Bartolomeo's homer in the fifth ended the day for starter
Emily McCutcheon (4.1 IP, 7 H, 5 ER) as the freshman suffered her first loss of the season (8-1).
Thomas singled home McCaffery, who led off the sixth with her third triple of the season to counter the run Ramapo crossed in the top half. Stefanski got a grounder and two pop ups in the seventh to salvage the split.
Rowan will close out the regular season on Saturday in a NJAC Doubleheader at New Jersey City. With one win, the Profs can lock up the top playoff seed in next week's conference tournament.
