#14 Softball Secures Top Playoff Seed and NJAC Regular Season Crown with DH Sweep at NJCU

Profs to host first-round game, Saturday, May 6th

JERSEY CITY, NJ -- #14 Rowan took two from New Jersey City in a NJAC Doubleheader to secure the top playoff seed and clinch the conference's regular season championship on Friday as the Profs took game one, 9-0, and the second 13-1.

Rowan will host a first round game of the NJAC Tournament a week from tomorrow, Saturday, May 6th against William Paterson with a tentative start time of 4 p.m.

Game one
Rylee Lutz fired a two-hit shutout and Cat Thomas added a three-run home run as the Profs took the contest in five innings.

Korie Hague, McKenzie Melvin, and Abigail Pawlowski each added two hits apiece as the team tallied 11 in the game

Lutz struck out five Gothic Knights with just two walks to collect her 19th win in the circle this season.

Leading 3-0 in the fourth, Thomas added to the lead with her team-leading eighth homer of the year. Pawlowski added a two-run single later in the frame to make it 8-0. Melvin doubled in Payton MacNair in the fifth to account for the scoring.

Game two
The Profs used a 12-run second inning thanks to nine hits, five walks and two NJCU errors highlighted by Melvin's bases-loaded clearing double.

Melvin, Pawlowski, Devyn DiPasquale, and Grace Shukaitis all scored twice while Liz McCaffery drew three walks.

Emily McCutcheon (3.0 IP), Marina Costello (1.0 IP), and Veronica Goode (1.0 IP) all limited New Jersey City to one run five hits with McCutcheon earning the win (9-1).
