GLASSBORO, NJ –
Phil Sedalis' walk-off single keyed #18 Rowan's sweep of Rutgers-Newark on Senior Day, giving the Profs an 11-10 come-from-behind win in the first game, while they earned a 12-6 win in the second game that was shortened due to lightning. Rowan improves to 24-10 (10-4 NJAC).
Game 1
Rutgers-Newark jumped out to a 5-0 lead until
Mason Dorsey got the Profs on the board in the fourth, singling in
Ryan Murphy. The Scarlet Raiders upped it to 6-1 in the sixth, but Rowan started its comeback in the bottom of the inning.
Rowan scored three in the sixth with three doubles by
Dylan Marian,
Jason Morgan and
Pat Defeciani, to score
Anthony Schooley, Maria and Dorsey. As the Profs pulled within 6-4.
Rutgers-Newark scored three in the seventh inning, taking a 9-4 lead, but the Profs fought back, as Sedalis hit a two-run home run to score Cannon and come within 9-6. The visitors added another in the eighth on a single from Rypkema that gave them a 10-6 advantage.
Rowan would answer with four runs in the eighth, taking advantage of four walks, and one hit batter, to tie the game.
Pat Defeciani led off drawing a walk and pinch hitter
Nick Struble came through with a single.
Marco Mannino was hit by a pitch and Cannon drew a walk to score Defeciani. Maria walked to drive in Mannino, as did Murphy, to bring home Cannon and Dorsey did the same, which allowed Sedalis to score the tying run, 10-10.
Reliever
Ryan Iovine kept Rutgers-Newark off the board in the ninth and
Karson Harcourt led off the bottom of the inning with a walk. Mannino sent him to second with a sacrifice bunt and he advanced to third on a ground out by Cannon. Sedalis then laced a single to center field to bring home Harcourt with the game winner.
Zach Grace started for Rowan and was relieved by
Braden Waller, and then Iovine, who earned the win, striking out four in 2.2 innings.
Sedalis went 4-for-6 in the win, driving in three runs and scoring two, while Dorsey went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run scored.
Game 2
Rowan again came back from an deficit, trailing 3-0 in the first inning and taking a 4-3 lead in the third, as Defeciani hit a solo home run in the second and Murphy blasted a two-run shot in the third.
Although Rutgers-Newark (20-13-1; 4-9-1) tied it in the fourth, Sedalis again came through with an RBI double to score Mannino, and Maria followed with a two-run single to score Sedalis and Canno, giving the Profs a 7-4 lead.
The Scarlet Raiders got two back in the fifth to pull within 7-6, but Cannon doubled down the left field line to score Mannino and Harcourt. When Sedalis reached base on an error, it allowed Cannon to score and give Rowan a 10-6 lead.
Dorsey added another run in the sixth as his sacrifice fly brought home Murphy, and Sedalis notched his third RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly in the seventh that scored Cannon.
Jake Reese (2-3) earned the win, relieving starter
Sean Colbert and
Christian Bascunan shut down the Scarlet Raiders in 1.2 innings.
Cannon drove in three runs and scored three, while Sedalis had three RBI and Murphy had two RBI and two runs scored.

The Profs head to Immaculata on Tuesday for a non-league matchup and then travel to Stockton on Thursday before returning home for the final regular-season home game on Friday versus Stockton.
