GLASSBORO, NJ –
Phil Sedalis and
Anthony Schooley had four hits each to lead Rowan's offense as the #18 Profs earned a 17-9 win over Rutgers-Camden in NJAC baseball action. Every player in the lineup had at least one hit, with the Profs totaling 21 hits, which included five doubles, as they improve to 22-4 (8-3 NJAC).
Sedalis scored five runs and drove in for as he went 4-for-5 in the game with Schooley also going 4-for-5 and registering three RBI and three runs.
Ryan Murphy had three hits and three RBI, which included a home run, and
Chris Curcio also notched three hits and crossed the plate three times.
Starter
Jason O'Neill (5-1) earned the victory with six innings of work with
Sean Colbert,
Ryan Iovine, and
Dylan Maria each tossing one inning and preserving the lead.
Rowan, which scored at least two runs in the seven consecutive innings, owned a 6-1 lead after innings. The Profs scored four in the second as they got RBI singles from Sedalis and Schooley, a sacrifice fly from Maria, and Murphy hit a double that allowed Schooley to cross the plate.
Rutgers-Camden (19-13; 5-6) countered with a five-run third inning to tie the game at 6-6. But the Profs scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of that inning as Sedalis singled and brought home
Brian Gallante from second, after he had singled and moved on a wild pitch. Rowan added to the total on Maria's two-run single that scored Sedalis and Curcio, giving the Profs a 9-6 lead after three.
Rowan scored two in the fourth thanks to a two-run single from Sedalis and then two in the fifth when Curcio drove home
Pat Defeciani with a base hit and Gallante scored on a balk, upping the Profs' lead to 13-6.
The runs didn't stop there when Sedalis walked and took two bases on Schooley's single, and eventually scored on a wild pitch. With Schooley on board, Murphy followed with a blast over the left field fence for his fifth home run of the year to give the Profs a 16-6 lead.
Rutgers-Camden scored two in the seventh and Rowan matched those in the bottom of the inning on Schooley's fourth hit of the game, a double to score Sedalis. The Scarlet Raptors added one more in the eighth to provide the final margin.
The teams will meet again on Friday in Camden before Rowan is back at home for an NJAC doubleheader on Saturday when it hosts Rutgers-Newark. It is "Senior Day" with the Profs' seniors being honored prior to the first game, which begins at 11:30 a.m.
