RALEIGH, NC -- Rowan picked up a pair of wins on Saturday at the Grand Slam Triangle Classic defeating Maryville, 4-2, and North Carolina Wesleyan, 6-0, to end the trip.
Against Maryville,
Cat Thomas kept her hot streak going, as the junior smacked a three-run home run in the third inning while
Grace Shukaitis added a career-best three hits. Rookie
Emily McCutcheon picked up her second win in relief over the weekend, spinning the final 3.1 innings of scoreless action.
Payton MacNair added an RBI single in the top of the fourth for a 4-0 edge. The Scots countered with a two-spot in the bottom half to slice the lead in half. McCutcheon came on for starter
Rylee Lutz, allowed just two hits the rest of the way.
Thomas spearheaded the 6-0 victory over North Carolina Wesleyan, going 2-for-3 with a two-run double in the first to highlight a three-run frame.
Korie Hague's RBI double in the 5th was part of another three-run inning as well.
Starter
Marina Costello scored the victory, yielding just two hits in four innings. Her and McCutcheon limited the Bishops two only four hits.
Rowan resumes action on Friday as the team heads to Florida for the Spring Games. The team takes on Monmouth on Gordon on the first day.
