CLERMONT, FL -- #18 Rowan won two more games on Thursday at The Spring Games in Florida, extending the team's winning streak to 13 games. The Profs defeated Carthage, 4-0, in the morning game, then followed with a 10-2 victory over SUNY-Geneseo.
Against Carthage,
Marina Costello and
Emily McCutcheon combined on a four-hit shutout as Costello struck out six with just one walk in five innings and McCutcheon yielding one baserunner over the final two frames to earn the save.
Grace Shukatis was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Liz McCaffery and
Breanna Bryant each doubled and drove in a run. McCaffery and
McKenzie Melvin also walked twice.
After Costello worked out of a spot with runners on second and third with one out in the second, the Profs got on the board in the third. McCaffery walked with the bags full while Melvin scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of
Korie Hague for a 2-0 edge.
Carthage threatened again in the fifth, getting two on with two outs.
Payton MacNair snagged a hard liner that looked like a hit to left on a great play at short for the third out. Hague scored an unearned run off an error in the bottom half of the fifth and
Cat Thomas produced a run with an infield RBI single in the sixth.
Trailing 1-0 after the first inning, the Profs exploded for eight runs in the third vs SUNY-Geneseo before the game was called after the fifth.
Four of the 10 runs were earned as the Knights had two errors and gave the Profs seven walks in the contest. Six different players either drove or walked in a run. Bryant and Hague had two hits apiece while Hague scored and walked twice.
Starter
Rylee Lutz fanned eight and allowed just one earned run on four hits.
The team concludes its Spring Break trip with two games on Friday. Rowan takes on Mount Saint Mary at 11:30 a.m. and later Ohio Wesleyan at 2 p.m.
