#24 Softball Downs Fredonia State and Plymouth State on Second Day of Florida Trip

KISSIMMEE, FL -- #24 Rowan continued play on Saturday in Florida where the Profs picked up wins over Fredonia State (2-0) and Plymouth State (8-0).

In the first game of the day, Rylee Lutz was an out away from a no hitter in the seventh as the sophomore struck out a career high 12 in the 2-0 win over the Devils.

Lutz entered the seventh and got a foul out and strikeout before Fredonia State's Avery Hill singled to right to break up the no-no bid.

The Profs put its two runs on the board in the fourth. Korie Hague led off the frame with a base hit followed by a walk from Abigail Pawlowski. Breanna Bryant singled just under the first baseman's mitt by the bag to allow Hague to score. Now with two outs and the bags full, Pawlowski scored from third on an error at short.

It ware more than enough for Lutz who had shutdown innings in the fifth and sixth leading to the seventh.

Hague finished the game 2-for-3 while Bryant was 1-for-3 with a stolen base.

Against Plymouth State, Cat Thomas crushed a grand slam while McKenzie Melvin went deep as Rowan took the five-inning affair.

Starter Marina Costello allowed just one hit in four innings, while adding three K's and two walks to pick up the win.

Melvin poked a solo homer in the first as part of a three-run inning. It became 7-0 in the fourth when Thomas cleared the bases with a shot to left field for her third dinger this season. Liz McCaffery and Devyn DiPasquale each walked twice for the Profs who totaled six hits and eight walks.

The team resumes action on Monday with games against Carroll at 2 p.m. and later a 4:30 p.m. start vs. Bowdoin.
