Game Highlights
GLASSBORO, NJ - Senior
Madison DuBois scored the game-winning goal and
Mariah Juiliano posted the shutout to lead #17 Rowan to a 3-0 win over #22 TCNJ as the Profs captured their third consecutive NJAC Championship in the conference final played on their home turf. Rowan (11-7) earns the league's automatic bid to the 2023 NCAA Championship, with the tournament bracket to be announced on NCAA.com on Sunday night at 10:30 p.m.
The top-seeded Profs took the lead in the second quarter.
Kaylee Wenzel dribbled the ball from the left side into the circle, past the TCNJ defenders and sent a shot towards goal, that DuBois deflected over TNCJ keeper Brigitte Racey keeper at 17:05. It was her third goal of the season and her second gamewinner.
"I really believe the past few weeks, our schedule and practices have allowed us to be at this level right now. We have gotten better with every game and it showed today. I couldn't be more proud (of this team)," said head coach
Michelle Andre, who has guided Rowan to four conference championships.
Rowan kept up the pressure all game long, outshooting the second-seeded Lions (11-8) by a 10-0 margin in the third quarter. But it wasn't until the fourth quarter that the Profs sealed the victory.
Sidney Pavlishin provided the insurance goal, putting the Profs up 2-0 with over 10 minutes remaining as she dribbled into the circle and sent a backhander into the far side of the cage for her fifth goal of the year.
The Profs sealed the win just three minutes later off a corner when
Julia Cavicchio took a shot that DuBois the deflected a ball to
Cienna Bosher, who directed it into the left side of the net for her second goal of the season.
Juiliano, a redshirt freshman, made one save to record her third straight shutout in the past six games as the Profs' starter. Rowan's defense, led by
Tess Herman,
Paige Yocum and Aurelia McManus, held TCNJ's leading scorer Rayhanah Ahmed to just one shot, while the Profs held a 13-1 advantage in shots on goal.
This marks the 10th conference title in school history for the Profs, and the fourth in the last five seasons. Rowan will be making its fifth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Championship, and the 23rd all-time.
