NORTHAMPTON, MA-- Husson defeated the Rowan women's basketball team, 67-62, in the Tyler Tip-Off Tournament in Smith College's Ainsworth Gym. Nicole Mallard, Kate Herlihy, and Kristina Johnson each scored 13 points for Rowan (0-1) in the loss.
Mallard went 5-for-12 from the field and went 1-for-4 from three-point range. Herlihy was 6-for-10 from the field whilel Johnson led the team with four assists while drilling two three-pointers.
Husson and Rowan were knotted up at 16 -16 after the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Eagles went on a 10-0 run in the span of 2:39, but Rowan went on a 14-5 run in the span of 5:18 to only trail by 31-30 going into halftime.
In the fourth quarter, the Profs were down by one point, 50-49. The back and forth game in the fourth quarter resulted in two leads by Rowan. Herlihy connected on a three-pointer to pull the Profs within three, 65-62, with :40 to play, but on Husson's next possession, Bailey Donovan hit a pair of free throws to seal the victory for the Eagles.
The Eagles had three players in double-digit scoring led by Bailey Donovan who had 22 points with 13 rebounds, both team highs.
Rowan will face Keene State at 2 p.m.on Sunday to close out play in the tournament.
