Sola Garcia Nets the Lone Goal as Men's Soccer Defeats #24 Kean, 1-0, to Reach NJAC Final

Freshman Charlie Scanlon posts a shutout in his first career start

GLASSBORO, NJ – Sergio Sola Garcia tallied the game's lone goal to lead second-seeded Rowan to a 1-0 win over third-seeded Kean in the semifinals of the 2023 NJAC Men's Soccer Championship. The Profs (9-3-5) move on to the conference championship on Saturday at 7 p.m. at top-seeded Montclair State.

Freshman Charlie Scanlon made the first start of his career in goal, replacing the injured Dylan Aportela, and recorded the shutout. Scanlon made two saves on the evening, as Rowan outshot the #21 Cougars, 13-5.

Sola Garcia netted the goal in the 54th minute when he headed in a free kick from Luke Yates. It marked the first gamewinner for the graduate student, who is in his first year with the Profs.

The Profs played with a two-man advantage in the final 12 minutes as Kean (11-2-6) received two red cards.

The play was even in the first half and Kean's goalkeeper Dominic Ridge kept it scoreless when he stopped a penalty kick by Rowan's leading scorer Johnny Troiano in the 33rd minute.

Saturday's NJAC Final will be a rematch of last year's which saw Rowan defeat Montclair State, 3-0 on the road, to capture its first conference championship since 2003.
