DiDonato Scores Twice as #21 Field Hockey Rolls to 5-1 Win over Montclair State on Senior Night

Game Highlights

GLASSBORO, NJ – Vanessa DiDonato scored two goals as #21 Rowan ran away with a 5-1 win over Montclair State in NJAC field hockey action on "Senior Night" at Coach Richard Wackar Stadium. The victory improves the Profs to 8-6, and 3-1 in the conference, with the regular season ending this week.

Tess Herman opened the scoring as she tallied her first goal of the year. The sophomore  dribbled into the circle and backhanded a high shot into the cage at 14:01 as the Profs owned the 1-0 lead into the second half.

Julia Cavicchio added what would prove to be the gamewinner in the third quarter when she carried the ball to the 10-yard line and also backhanded a chip shot for her fourth goal of the season.

After the push back at the start of the fourth quarter, DiDonato stole the ball and carried it into the circle and beat the MSU goalie from close range to give the Profs a 3-0 lead.

Montclair State (6-10; 0-3) ruined Rowan goalie Mariah Juiliano's bid for a shutout with a score at 47:14 by Gab Maisto off a rebound.

But the Profs came right back and increased their lead, as DiDonato put in one off a rebound for her team-high 12th goal of the season. Rowan closed out the scoring when Cavicchio blasted a shot off a corner and Amber Powell was at the near post to push it into the cage at 53:08.

Rowan honored its seniors – Cienna Bosher, Madison DuBois, Aida Ingram, Sarita Marshall and Abby Riley – prior to the game for Senior Night.

The Profs close out the regular season with a pair of games on the road this week – at #5 Salisbury on Wednesday and at Ramapo on Saturday.
