SEASON RECAP
The 1993 Rowan College Profs, under direction of first-year Head Coach K.C. Keeler capped their historic season off with an 11-2 record, falling to Mount Union in the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl. The Profs saw success from a slew of players, with 20 players landing a spot on the All-Conference list. Players such as Ed Hesson, who earned NJAC Offensive Player of the Year recognition, as well as LeRoi Jones, Profs Hall of Famer, were among those who propelled the Profs to the finals. The leaders of the team, Jarvis Perry, Billy Luette, and Brian Adair helped create an atmosphere destined for success.

The Profs started off their season on the road against Newport News on September 11 coming home with the first win of many. The Profs' offense took control of the game early and did not slow down for a second, racking up 354 yards rushing and 247 passing. This allowed Rowan to pull away with a 54-7 win in Virginia.

Next up was a trip to Brookville, NY, to face Division II C.W. Post. Through a bit of back-and-forth play, Hesson threw for 326 yards while completing 20-of-36 attempts, but the Profs were edged, 38-34.

Rowan began NJAC play on the road against Jersey City in week three, playing each other in the 25th meeting between the two teams. The Profs' defense saw notable success from rookie Ed Williams, who came off the bench to record three solo tackles and 17 assists, allowing the Profs' offense to put points on the board with very little repercussions. Rowan ended up back in the win column, defeating Jersey City, 39-7, to extend its win streak over the Gothic Knights to 20 straight.

During week four of the season, the Profs competed in their home opener against Trenton State. The Profs punched first, scoring with no time on the clock in the first to take a 7-0 lead. The Lions quickly fought back, scoring once in the second and once in the fourth quarter, to push ahead, 13-7. Hesson found wide receiver Rhamon Trent shortly after with a 30-yard touchdown pass. Rob Juliano completed the comeback with the winning PAT, allowing the Profs to come away with the 14-13 win over the Lions.

The 3-1 Profs hosted 1-2 Salisbury State and quickly took an impressive lead, putting up 42 unanswered points in the first half. In the first quarter, fullback Jarvis Perry got into the end zone twice and in the second quarter, the Profs brought in Kyle Haas at quarterback, who then connected with halfback Calvin Easley for a 34-yard touchdown pass. The Profs' defense later blocked a punt for a safety while Haas completed two more touchdown passes before the Sea Gulls put up 14 points on the board. Cornerback Arnell Palmer capped off the Profs' impressive day with a 29-yard interception that he returned for a touchdown as Rowan rolled over Salisbury State, 71-14, to win their 14th straight regular season home game.

Heading into week six of the season, the Profs led the conference in several categories, including total offense (492.5), scoring (41.7) and passing (286.8). The defense, led by LeRoi Jones, was holding the opponents to just 16.5 points per game.

The Profs next hosted Southern Connecticut State for just the 11th time ever, and they continued their momentum from the previous week, capturing a 41-20 win over the Owls.

Rowan ended its home stretch against Kean on October 30, 1993. Perry led the way with three touchdowns, all of which were set up by fumbles recovered by Jones, while the team also got contributions from kicker Rob Juliano and tight end Brad Hart. Perry finished the game with 157 yards on 20 carries, allowing the Profs to pull away with a 37-13 win.

Keeler's Profs headed to William Paterson for their week eight matchup, which would be their first of two meetings in 1993. Hesson had another impressive week, connecting on 71 percent of his passing attempts for 283 yards and three touchdowns. The Profs returned to Glassboro with the 46-22 win over WPC (7-1).

In the final week of the regular season, the 7-1 Profs hosted 6-2 Montclair State in the NJAC Championship game. Halfback Steve Anderson led the Profs with three touchdowns, two of which were rushing and one passing on a halfback option. Perry added to the scoring with two touchdowns, both rushing, as Rowan had 625 yards of total offense. The Profs' defense continued a dominant season by holding Montclair State to just 41 yards rushing, as well as recording four interceptions, as Rowan won, 41-15, and took home the conference title.

With that conference title in hand, the Profs earned a bid to the NCAA Playoffs as the number-one seed in the East Region.

The Profs hosted Buffalo State in the first round, marking just the second meeting between the two teams. Easley led the Profs with three touchdowns while Rob Juliano and Kirby Johnson also contributed to the scoring, as Rowan came out on top, 29-6.

Next up was a date at William Paterson for the East Region Championship, and the Profs defeated their conference rival for the second time, winning 37-0. Steve Anderson and Jarvis Perry started the scoring with a touchdown run each. Nose guard Bill Fisher blocked a William Paterson field goal attempt, allowing the Profs to end the half with a 14-0 lead. Juliano kicked a 33-yard field goal, which was followed by Hesson's touchdown pass to Johnson to extend the Profs' lead heading into the fourth. Defensive end John Rechner added the final touchdown, with a 42-yard interception return while Luette recorded three interceptions to give Rowan the East Region title and the berth in the NCAA Semifinal.

Rowan took on Washington & Jefferson in Washington, PA, with a trip to the Stagg Bowl on the line. Juliano's field goal started the scoring, made possible by Dan Robertson's fumble recovery in the first quarter. W&J bounced back quickly, scoring on an eight-yard run, but in the beginning of the second, Hesson connected with Calvin Easley to put the Profs ahead. This was shortly followed by an interception by Chris Rhodes, and ultimately another Hesson touchdown pass to Kirby Johnson. The Presidents bounced back once again, pulling within two points of the Profs heading into the fourth. Hesson hit Priest Ramsey for another touchdown pass. The Presidents followed by earning a safety. Outside linebacker Paul Fornicola sealed the deal by recovering a fumble, sending the Profs to the NCAA Division III Championship (11-1).

The 11-1 Rowan Profs played the 13-0 Mount Union Purple Raiders in the NCAA Division III Championship, or the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl  in Salem, VA. Playing conditions were anything but ideal, with wind gusts of 30 miles per hour. The Profs struck first, with Perry scoring on a 13-yard run and Mount Union countered to take 7-6 lead. Juliano connected on a 37-yard field goal and the Purple Raiders ended the half with another touchdown to go up 14-9. Hesson scored on a four-yard run and Easley caught an 8-yard pass to give Rowan a 24-21 lead at the end of the third quarter but Mount Union scored twice in the fourth quarter to claim the championship with a 34-24 victory.

The Profs completed their season with an impressive 11-2 record. Although they fell in the final, they were named the 1993 ECAC Team of the Year and were awarded the Lambert Cup as the top Division III Team in the East, for the first time in school history.
