GLASSBORO, NJ  - Kristiina Castagnola and Julia Cavicchio had two goals apiece as the #3 Rowan field hockey team dominated Catholic, 8-1, in the home opener for the Profs (2-0) at Coach Richard Wackar Stadium. Castagnola also added an assist while Julia Patrone handed out three assists on the day.

The Profs, who saw five different players score in the game, held a 4-0 lead by halftime and had scored seven consecutive goals before Catholic (0-2) got on the scoreboard.

Castagnola scored two goals in the first quarter, with her first of the season just five minutes in as she took a pass from Patrone on the left side. Freshman Tess Herman netted her first career goal at 9:51 as she took a shot that was stopped by Catholic goalie Abigail Kearney, but then collected her own rebound and put it in.

The Profs were awarded a penalty stroke with less than a minute to go in the quarter, and Castagnola delivered, sending it into the right side of the cage.

Bridget Guinan added her second of the year at 29:42 as her shot from less than 10 yards out was deflected into the cage.

Cavicchio scored twice on corners, notching her first goal of the year at 32:58 as she blasted it in, after taking the pass from Liz Fox. AT 37:06 Patrone dribbled into the circle, drawing the defense, and fed Vanessa DiDonato, who put the ball into the empty net.

Catholic got on the board at 54:21 when Molly McEvoy sent a ball to Niki Micciche, who lifted the ball over the head of Rowan goalie Abby Hainsworth.

The Profs added two more in the fourth quarter, set up again by Patrone five yards out when she pushed the ball to Rachel Stone on the right side, to score her first of the year at 57:18.

Cavicchio added the game's final score with under a minute to go, blasting a shot on a corner, after she took the pass from Morgan Mulvey.

Rowan held a commanding 23-3 advantage in shots with Hainsworth making one save on the day.

The Profs head on the road for three straight games, starting at Swarthmore on Wednesday and then for a Top 5 showdown at #2 Johns Hopkins on Saturday.
