GLASSBORO, NJ –
Kristiina Castagnola scored two goals to help #2 Rowan to a 5-2 win over Cabrini in field hockey action at Coach Richard Wackar Stadium, as the Profs up their record to 8-0.
Castagnola now has three goals in the past two games, while
Julia Patrone netted one to extend her goal-scoring streak to six games.
Sophomore
Madison DuBois got things going for Rowan with her first career goal at 8:24, as
Julia Cavicchio took a blast from 25-yards out, and DuBois tipped it in from close range. Cabrini tied it just minutes later, but Castagnola put Rowan back up at 51:09 after Patrone sent a pass to the middle and the co-captain scored from seven yards out.
At 18:25, Patrone got past a Cabrini defender in the circle and backhanded a shot in for her team-leading 11th goal of the year.
The Profs held a 3-1 lead after three quarters but added a pair of insurance goals in the fourth.
Rachel Stone centered a pass from the right wing which Patrone tipped to Castagnola, who put it into the left side of the cage at 51:09.
Cienna Bosher scored her second goal in as many games when
Vanessa DiDonato took a shot from 25 yards out and Bosher tipped it in.
Cabrini (7-2) provided the final margin with a goal at 58:36 from Adrianna Jones.
Rowan outshot the Cavaliers, 31-4, while goalkeeper
Abby Hainsworth made one save on the day to record her eight win.
This was the first in a three-game homestand for the Profs as they will host Alvernia on Wednesday evening and then open conference play against NJAC rival TCNJ on Saturday, October 1.
** Last year's NCAA Semifinalist field hockey team will be honored at halftime of Rowan's home football on Saturday, as they will receive their Final Four rings. Kickoff for the football game is 1 p.m.
