Patrone Records a Hat Trick as #2 Field Hockey Shuts Out Stevens, 5-0

Hainsworth records her first shutout of the sesaon

HOBOKEN, NJ – Julia Patrone compiled a hat trick to lead #2 Rowan to a 5-0 win over Stevens in field hockey action today, as the Profs improve to 5-0 on the year. For Patrone, it was the fourth three-goal game of her career, while Rowan goalkeeper Abby Hainsworth picked up her first shutout of the season.

The Profs dominated from the start, and although they earned seven penalty corners and took 13 shots, Stevens' goalie Emily Franco made five saves to keep Rowan off the board in the first quarter.

Patrone opened the scoring at 15:34 as she fought for a ball at the top of the circle and took a few dribbles in and sent it into the right-hand side of the cage. She tallied her second at 28:05 after taking a pass from Bridget Guinan, carrying it down the field and shooting from at the top of the circle to give Rowan a 2-0 lead by halftime.

Julia Cavicchio added one in the third quarter off a penalty corner as she took the feed from Liz Fox and sent a blast right through the center of Stevens' defense at 34:35 for her fourth goal of the year.

Vanessa DiDonato scored her second goal of the season as she dribbled through the box and pushed the ball in from close range at 35:39 as the Profs took a 4-0 lead.

Patrone completed the hat trick in the fourth quarter as she took a shot, collected the rebound, and put it into the cage at 46:25.

Rowan totaled a season-high 33 shots to just three by Stevens, while Hainsworth made two saves to earn the shutout.

With the three-game road swing finished, the Profs return home on Saturday, September 17, to host Haverford in a noon game at Coach Richard Wackar Stadium.
