MEDFORD, MA -- #17 Rowan was on the wrong end of a 6-1 decision to host Tufts on Saturday in a NCAA Regional Tournament Winner's bracket matchup.
The Profs now will play Muhlenberg in an elimination game later today at 4:30 with the winner advancing to the championship series on Sunday against Tufts.
Sophia DiCocco of Tufts limited the Profs to just two hits through five innings as Rowan totaled four in the contest. Michelle Adelman was a single shy of the cycle, going 3-for-3 with four runs and two RBIs.
The Jumbos crossed two runs in their first-at bat on a RBI double from Adelman and a sac fly. Adelman tripled in the third and later scored on a single to make it a 3-0 contest.
Rowan got a spark in the fifth as back-to-back singles from
Liz McCaffery and
Korie Hague led off the frame. After a groundout to move the runners up,
Breanna Bryant hit a ball to second where McCaffery beat the throw home to get the Profs on the board.
Tufts countered with two runs in the bottom half on a pair of RBI singles. Adelman added a solo home run in the sixth.
Starter
Emily August fanned five with one walk, but yielded five runs on eight hits. It was her first loss since April 12 in a 3-2 defeat at TCNJ. McCaffery, Hague,
McKenzie Melvin, and
Cat Thomas accounted for the four hits on the day.
