#18 Softball Runs Past Rutgers-Camden in NJAC Sweep

CAMDEN, NJ – #18 Rowan pounded out double-digit hits in both games of a NJAC doubleheader at Rutgers-Camden on Tuesday, winning game one, 12-0, and the second, 14-1.

Game one
Breanna Bryant doubled twice and drove in three runs, Liz McCaffery had two hits, two runs, two RBIs, and two walks, and pitcher Emily August fired a two-hit shutout.

The Profs scored five runs in the third, where McCaffery's two-run single would help lead the way. In the fourth, Gianna LaMorges delivered a two-run, pinch hit single as part of a three-run frame. Bryant came through in the fifth with a two-out bases loaded clearing double to make it 12-0.

It was more than enough for August, as the senior picked up four strikeouts with no walks in five innings of action to move to 9-3 on the year.

Game two
The Profs racked up 13 hits and took advantage of eight Scarlet Raptor walks. Morgan Zane sparked the offense, going 2-for-2 with a walk, three runs and three RBI's. The senior hit her team-leading sixth home run of the season, this time a solo shot in the fourth. McCaffery stayed hot at the plate, going 3-for-3 and scored twice. Cat Thomas also drove in three runs while Korie Hague (2-for-4, 2RBI) and Bryant (2-for-3, 2 runs) had a multi-hit game.

Starter Rylee Lutz spun four scoreless innings, totaling four K's, four hits, and two walks to improve to 9-1.

Rowan led 5-0 after the first two innings. Zane's dinger in the fourth preceded a fifth inning that broke it open. RU had just four hits, but used five walks and two hit batsmen to help the visitors plate eight runs.

The Profs return home to take on Rutgers-Newark in a NJAC twinbill this Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
