MAHWAH, NJ -- #21 Rowan picked up a big pair of wins at Ramapo in a NJAC twinbill on Thursday. The Profs took game one, 4-0, behind a three-hit shutout from
Emily August then rallied with a three-run sixth to go on a take game two, 6-3.
Game one
August fanned eight with just one walk to move to 14-4 on the season. The Profs got a three spot in the sixth thanks to RBI hits from
Korie Hague and
Cat Thomas along with a pinch hit sac fly from
Gianna LaMorges.
Liz McCaffery added an RBI double in the seventh to account for the scoring.
After August worked out of a spot in the second, as the Roadrunners put runners on first and second, the senior allowed just two baserunners the rest of the way.
Thomas, McCaffery,
Morgan Zane,
Payton MacNair all had two hits each.
Game two
Zane's bat in the second game was the difference as the senior hit a two-run home run in the first then later delivered an RBI double as part of a three-run sixth. August also came in relief to notch her second win of the day.
The homer from Zane, who was 3-for-4 with two runs, was her NJAC-leading eighth on the season. An RBI double from Mackenzie Melvin in the second put the Profs up, 3-0.
Ramapo answered with a three-run frame its own, plating three runs on three hits to force an early exit for starter
Rylee Lutz.
The Profs then turned the tide in the sixth, getting all three runs with two outs. MacNair knocked in Melvin to make it 4-3 then Zane followed with her double to plate MacNair. After a passed ball helped Zane move to third, McCaffery capped the scoring with RBI single to center.
August entered in the third and went the distance, tossing 4.1 scoreless innings. She worked out of a bases loaded jam after yielding two singles and a walk all with two outs, but the senior got a big strikeout to end the threat.
Rowan will close out the regular season on Saturday as they host New Jersey City in a NJAC Doubleheader on Senior Day starting at 1 p.m. The Profs are still in the hunt for the top playoff seed, but will need two wins to enter into that conversation.
