#18 Softball Rebounds To Take Game Two in DH Split at TCNJ

EWING, NJ -- #18 Rowan had it's 11-game winning streak come to an end on Tuesday, dropping a tough 3-2 decision at The College of New Jersey in game one of a NJAC Doubleheader. Game two saw the Profs post an 11-1 win over the Lions to salvage the split.

Game one
The Profs plated two runs in the second but saw TCNJ get a run in the fourth on a solo homer and later a two-run shot in the fifth to go ahead.

Korie Hague was 2-for-2 with a run scored while Grace Shukaitis added an RBI single in that second inning.

With Hague at third and Breanna Bryant at first, Shukaitis hit a single to right where the ball was misplayed, allowing Bryant to score on the play. In the third, the Profs worked to load the bases with two outs, but came up empty as a fielder's choice to third base ended the frame.

Kayla Hillebrand cut the lead in half with her solo homer in the fourth. Julia Mayernik then put the home team ahead with a two-out longball in the fifth.

Starter Emily August struck out five batters with one walk, while yielding six hits as she suffered her first loss in her last six starts.

Game two
Rowan rebounded with 11 hits and did not trail in the contest. The team scored five runs in the sixth to go up 11-1 where they ended the game after the bottom half of the inning.

Seven different players each drove in a run with four players having two hits apiece. Liz McCaffery went 2-for-4 with two RBI's, Payton MacNair scored three times, and Shukaitis was 2-for-3 with a home run. Cat Thomas added two hits, two walks, a run scored and an RBI as well.

Starter Rylee Lutz worked all six innings, giving up a run on just four hits with five K's and two walks.

The Profs jumped out to a lead in the first as three-straight walks loaded the bases. Later in the frame, RBI hits from McCaffery and Hague helped the squad to a 2-0 lead. The Lions crossed a run in their first at-bat on a wild pitch to cut into the Rowan lead.

Shukaitis led off the second with a solo shot to left, for her first career round tripper. In the fourth, Rowan plated three runs on four hits, a walk, and an error to up the lead to five runs. The bottom half of the inning saw Lutz work out of a bases loaded spot, getting a big strikeout to stop the threat.

The momentum carried over to the next inning, as two walks, two errors and a hit batter paved the way along with three hits to open up the game for good.

Rowan will host Montclair State on Saturday in a NJAC twinbill starting at 1 p.m.
