GLASSBORO, NJ -- #16 Rowan took down Montclair State in a NJAC Doubleheader winning both games on Saturday with an identical 3-0 score in each contest.
Game one
Emily August notched her third game this season and fourth in her career with 10 or more strikeouts as the senior served up a dozen K's on just four hits and a walk. August moves to 11-4 on the year.
Devyn DiPasquale got the home team on the board in the second with a two-out triple just inside the right field line to plate
Breanna Bryant.
In the top of the third, the Red Hawks looked to answer getting runners on the corners with two outs, however a fielder's choice to second base halted the chance.
The Profs then got a big two-out, two-run double off the bat of
Grace Shukaitis in the fourth, scoring DiPasquale and pinch runner
Gabbie Fonollosa for a 3-0 lead.
Both Shukaitis and DiPasquale had two hits apiece while Bryant and
Morgan Zane each added a double.
Game two
Zane knocked in a pair of runs as Rowan etched runs in the final three innings to complete the sweep.
A leadoff double from
McKenzie Melvin in the fourth led to Zane's first RBI, single to left to go ahead, 1-0. Shukaitis had another two-out RBI double, this time coming in the fifth to knock in pinchrunnerÂ
Sarah Brosman to make it 2-0.
Again, Montclair threatened, loading the bases in the sixth, but starter
Rylee Lutz induced a foul out to first base end the frame.
Liz McCaffery led off the sixth with a triple to the gap in right center. Zane followed with a single up the middle to trot home McCaffery for a three-run lead.
Lutz scattered five hits with three K's and three walks to improve to 11-1 on the season.
Rowan returns to action on Tuesday as Richard Stockton visits in an NJAC Doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
