VIRGINIA BEACH, VA - The 11th-ranked Rowan baseball team pounded out 17 hits en route to an 18-3 win over Virginia Wesleyan in the finale of a three-game series. Eric DiDomenico was 4-for-4 on the day to lead Rowan (3-1), with Ryan Murphy and Patrick Defeciani adding three hits each.

BOXSCORE

On his perfect day at the plate, DiDomenico scored four runs, had three RBI, two doubles and a home run. Murphy was 3-for-7 with a home run and two runs scored with Defeciani  going 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.

Jason O'Neill (2-0) got the start and the win as he scattered five hits and struck out four. Eric Cartafalsa  and Dylan Maria made their Prof debuts, each pitching an inning in relief.

Murphy drove in two runs in the first three innings, including hitting a solo homer in the third for his first of the season. DiDomenico also homered in the second as the Profs staked a 3-1 lead.

In the fifth inning, the Profs exploded for eight runs, starting with a two-run double from DiDomenico, followed by a single by Marco Mannino that drove in two more. Chris Curcio walked with the bases loaded to bring home another run and Mannino scored next on a wild pitch. Defeciani closed out the scoring with a two-run single to left field, giving the Profs an 11-1 lead.

Rowan added three more in the seventh inning when Marc Hernandez doubled to score DiDomenico and Defeciani, who then crossed the plate when Ryan West reached base on a throwing error.

The Profs kept it going in the eighth with four more runs as Brandon Shine hit an RBI single to score Ryan Mostrangeli. Mannino then reached base on an error that allowed DiDomenico and Shine to cross the plate. Ryan West drove in the fourth run with a single to score Mannino.

Virginia Wesleyan (7-3) put two runs on the board in the bottom of the ninth to provide the final margin.

Rowan will travel to Florida later this week to play a nine-game schedule at the RussMatt Invitational, from March 10-18.
