DAVENPORT, FL – Rowan's offense exploded for 21 runs on 20 hits as the #10 Profs defeated Keystone, 21-0, in seven innings at the RussMatt Invitational. Senior LF Ryan Mostrangeli led the way going 4-for-5 while junior lefthander Eli Atiya limited the Giants to just two hits to earn his second win of the year.
Mostrangeli had three doubles on the day, driving in four runs while scoring three. Ryan Murphy went 3-for-5 with three runs and two RBI with Anthony Schooley adding three hits, three runs and two RBI in five at-bats. Trip McCaffrey was 3-for-4 with three runs and an RBI, while Hunter Wroniuk contributed two RBI and scored two runs.
Atiya didn't allow a hit until the third inning and struck out seven in five innings. Ryan Iovine and David Levin each threw an inning in relief.
The Profs wasted no time, scoring six runs in the top of the first inning. Cannon scored the first run and when Rowan batted around, drove in two more. The team also got a two-run single by Wroniuk and an RBI single Schooley.
Rowan put together a five-run third inning, with runs being driven in with a singled from McCaffrey, a sacrifice fly by Cannon and a single from Murphy.
The fourth inning was more of the same with five more runs as Cannon drove in one with a single, and Mostrangeli hit his first double of the game to drive in two. He also scored on a wild pitch and Eric DiDomenico drove in Murphy with a single.
Rowan added to its total in the fifth with another double from Mostrangeli and Chris Curcio scored one of his three runs on a passed ball. The Profs closed it out in the seventh when Pat Defeciani drove in two with a single.
The Profs are back at it again in the tournament tomorrow, March 11, when they face #19 Southern Maine at Auburndale. The game time has been changed to 12:45 p.m.
