Mostrangeli Hits Grand Slam and Solo Homer as #10 Baseball Defeats St. John Fisher, 11-5

LAKELAND, FL - Ryan Mostrangeli hit two home runs, including a grand slam, to lead the #10 Rowan baseball team to an 11-5 win over St. John Fisher in the RussMatt Invitational at Henley Field.

Mostrangeli went 2-for-5 on the day with two runs scored and a career-high five RBI. Trip McCaffrey and Tyler Cannon were also 2-for-5. Chris Curcio, Hunter Wroniuk and Anthony Schooley scored two runs apiece for the 5-1 Profs.

Starter Donald Zellman went 4.2 innings and struck out six. The Profs' corps of relievers - Eric Cartafalsa, Mike Shannon, Patrick Sudnikovich and David Levin - secured the win. Levin struck out two in the top of the ninth and earned the first win of his career.

The Profs scored at least one run in the first six innings, starting with Curcio crossing the plate in the first on a wild pitch after he hit a single and was moved around.  In the second, Hunter Wroniuk reached base on a single and eventually scored on a single from Cannon as Rowan took a 2-0 lead.

Mostrangeli hit his first homer of the game, a solo shot in the third inning, to put Rowan up 3-0.

In the fourth, the Profs loaded the bases for Mostrangeli to drive in all four with his first career grand slam, bringing home Wroniuk, McCaffrey and Schooley to give the Profs a 7-0 lead.

St. John Fisher got on the board with three runs in the fourth inning after loading the bases. But the Profs added two more in the bottom half of the inning, as Schooley singled to bring in Pat Defeciani, and Schooley eventually scored on an RBI single from Cannon.

SJF countered with two more in the sixth inning to close the gap to 9-5, but Eric DiDomenico gave Rowan another in the bottom of the inning with a double that brought home Murphy.

Curcio scored another in the eighth when he was hit by a pitch, stole second, advanced on a wild pitch and scored on a fly ball by Murphy that was dropped in centerfield, giving the Profs an 11-5 advantage.

Rowan is scheduled to play Oswego State on Monday at 3:45 p.m. in Davenport, FL, as it continues play at the RussMatt Invitational.
