HAVERFORD, PA – Ninth-ranked Rowan (9-3) scored 11 runs through the first five innings as it shut out Haverford, 18-0, in non-league baseball action in the Profs' first action since their return from their trip to Florida. Leftfielder
Ryan Mostrangeli and first baseman
Eric DiDomenico each hit three-run home runs, marking the second time this season that both co-captains homered in the same game.
Shortstop
Chris Curcio went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and two RBI, while third baseman
Anthony Schooley was 3-for-6 with two runs and two RBI.
Jason O'Neill (3-0) went seven innings to earn the victory, as he scattered five hits and struck out six.
Eric Cartafalsa and
David Levin each pitched a scoreless inning in relief.
The Profs opened the scoring with a five-run third inning, on RBI doubles by
Tyler Cannon and
Ryan Murphy, which scored
Trip McCaffrey and Cannon, respectively. Mostrangeli then cleared the bases, with his fifth homer of the year, to bring home Murphy and
Patrick Defeciani.
Defeciani scored again in the fifth on a single from Schooley and then DiDomenico connected on his fourth home run to score Schooley and Mostrangeli. A fielder's choice by Cannon and a Haverford error allowed
Marc Hernandez and Curcio to score as the Profs took an 11-0 lead.
Cannon sparked another two runs in the sixth on his fielder's choice that scored Curcio and DiDomenico and Rowan built its lead up to 14-0 at the end of the seventh when Curcio walked to bring home Mostrangeli.
Rowan added three more in the eighth on an RBI single from
Ryan West to score
Brandon Shine, and then a single from Schooley that scored West and Defeciani, helped by an error. Curcio drove in the final run on a sacrifice fly that allowed Schooley to cross the plate.
The Profs play their home opener on Tuesday when they host York (PA) at 3:30 p.m. at the Rowan Baseball Field.
