GLASSBORO, NJ –
Eli Atiya threw a two-hitter through seven innings and
Anthony Schooley drove in three runs as ninth-ranked Rowan defeated York (PA), 6-1, in the Profs' home baseball opener.
Atiya was working on a one-hitter until the Spartans got their second hit in the top of the seventh. The lefthander upped his record to 3-0 on the season, as he struck out three.
Mike Shannon pitched two scoreless and hitless innings in relief as Rowan improved to 10-3.
Schooley went 4-for-4 and scored one run in addition to adding three RBI, with
Ryan Mostrangeli picking up three hits and one RBI.
Patrick Defeciani went 2-for-3 on the day while
Ryan Murphy scored two runs.
York (7-7) got its only run on one hit, when the game's second batter, Austin Denlinger sent one over the left field fence to go up 1-0. The Profs got that run back in the bottom of the inning as Mostrangeli hit a sacrifice fly to score Murphy.
Rowan added one in the fourth as a sacrifice fly by
Eric DiDomenico brought home Mostrangeli. The Profs scored two in the sixth on an RBI single by Schooley and a sacrifice fly from
Chris Curcio, that scored Defeciani and Schooley, respectively.
Schooley accounted for Rowan's final runs of the game as he connected on a two-run double in the seventh to score pinch runner
Chris Serrano and Murphy.
The Profs are back in action on Saturday, March 26, when they travel to Messiah University for a doubleheader beginning at noon.
