Atiya, Schooley Pace #9 Baseball over York, 6-1

Highlights

GLASSBORO, NJ – Eli Atiya threw a two-hitter through seven innings and Anthony Schooley drove in three runs as ninth-ranked Rowan defeated York (PA), 6-1, in the Profs' home baseball opener.

Atiya was working on a one-hitter until the Spartans got their second hit in the top of the seventh. The lefthander upped his record to 3-0 on the season, as he struck out three. Mike Shannon pitched two scoreless and hitless innings in relief as Rowan improved to 10-3.

Schooley went 4-for-4 and scored one run in addition to adding three RBI, with Ryan Mostrangeli picking up three hits and one RBI. Patrick Defeciani went 2-for-3 on the day while Ryan Murphy scored two runs.

York (7-7) got its only run on one hit, when the game's second batter, Austin Denlinger sent one over the left field fence to go up 1-0. The Profs got that run back in the bottom of the inning as Mostrangeli hit a sacrifice fly to score Murphy.

Rowan added one in the fourth as a sacrifice fly by Eric DiDomenico brought home Mostrangeli. The Profs scored two in the sixth on an RBI single by Schooley and a sacrifice fly from Chris Curcio, that scored Defeciani and Schooley, respectively.

Schooley accounted for Rowan's final runs of the game as he connected on a two-run double in the seventh to score pinch runner Chris Serrano and Murphy.

The Profs are back in action on Saturday, March 26, when they travel to Messiah University for a doubleheader beginning at noon.
