CLERMONT, FL -- Rowan ended its Spring Break trip in Florida with a split on Friday capped off with a walk-off win in the second game.
The Profs fell, 9-1, to Coe in the day's first contest but rallied for a 4-3 victory over NYU after
McKenzie Melvin beat home a throw on a grounder to short in the bottom of the seventh.
Against Coe, Rowan was limited to four hits and committed four errors as the Kohawks plated runs in every inning but the second to win it in five innings.
Melvin doubled in the fourth and would score on an RBI from
Kaitlyn Riggs to account for the lone Rowan run.
Emily August took the loss, allowing four earned runs on five hits in 2.1 innings.
Ruby Kappeler went 3-for-3 with two RBI's and two runs scored for Coe.
In the day's second game, Melvin was 3-for-4 with two runs and a stolen base.
Korie Hague and
Cat Thomas each added two hits as the Profs erased a 3-2 deficit with a run in the sixth the game-winner in the seventh.
An RBI groundout from
Morgan Zane later followed by a run scored on a wild pitch helped put RU up 2-0 in the third.
The Profs got out of a bases loaded spot in the fifth as August entered for starter
Rylee Lutz and got a fly out and a liner to left to move to the bottom half.
NYU put together three runs on three hits and two walks to take a 3-2 lead.
Grace Shukaitis hit a looper just inside the right field line in the sixth to score
April Laury knot things up.
Melvin led off the seventh with a single and would move to third on a single from Zane. Riggs hit a grounder to short where Melvin scored the game-winning run to help end the trip with an 8-3 record.
Thomas earned the win as she threw the final two innings yielding just two hits.
The team heads back north and will resume action on Wednesday as they play two at Rosemont.
