#19 Softball Splits With Clarkson and Wisconsin-River Falls

LEESBURG, FL -- #19 Rowan split two games on Thursday at The Spring Games on its Spring Break Trip. The Profs shutdown Clarkson, 2-0, but fell on a walk-off single to have their six-game win streak snapped with a 3-2 defeat to Wisconsin-River Falls.

Thursday's first game against Clarkson saw Rylee Lutz went the distance, striking out five on just three hit and no walks to improve to 6-0 on the year.

Grace Shukaitis opened the scoring in the third with a one-out triple to plate Liz McCaffery for a 1-0 lead.

Lutz got two big double plays in the contest, the latter coming in the sixth as the Golden Knights had runners on second and third with one out. Payton MacNair fielded a grounder at short with the throw back from Devyn DiPasquale at first was able to get the runner trying to get back to second to end the inning.

The Profs tacked on a big insurance run in the sixth. After McKenzie Melvin reached on a two-out triple, Korie Hague singled her home to a two-run lead. Lutz yielded a one-out single in the top of the seventh, but the defense ended it with a 4-6-3 double play.

Clarkson's Oliva Zoeller allowed the two runs on four hits with six K's.

The nightcap saw Wisconsin-River Falls' Megan Halvorson beat out a bases-loaded infield single in the bottom of the seventh for a 3-2 decision.

Trailing 1-0 in the third, the Profs took advantage of a lead-off error to get a runner on. Payton MacNair would double home pinch runner April Laury to knot things up at 1-1.

Cat Thomas sac fly in the fourth plated Morgan Zane who led off the frame with a triple to give Rowan a 2-1 edge. The Falcone countered with a run in the fifth to deadlock to the teams again.

The Profs threatened in the top of the seventh, getting back-to-back singles to start the inning. After a sacrifice to move the runners up and a line out, MacNair was intentionally walked to load the bases. However a sharp groundout to the pitcher moved things to the bottom half.

Rowan concludes play in Florida tomorrow with a pair of contests. First up is Coe at 1:30 p.m. followed by a matchup with NYU at 4:00 p.m.
