#19 Softball Stretches Win Streak To Five Games With Two Wins on Tuesday

CLERMONT, FL -- #19 Rowan notched two more wins on their Spring Break Trip at The Spring Games on Tuesday. The Profs defeated Framingham State, 5-2, in the morning then came back to post a 3-2 decision over Endicott.

A three-run fifth inning helped the Profs get ahead for good in defeating Framingham State.

Payton MacNair went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Korie Hague was 1-for-3. Hague delivered a two-run single in that fifth, then later scored on a single from Kaitlyn Riggs to make it 4-2.

The Rams jumped ahead 2-0 in the second on a two-run double.

Rylee Lutz entered for starter Cat Thomas in the second and got out of a bases loaded spot with a strikekout to end the threat.

Lutz in the fourth helped her cause as she singled home McKenzie Melvin to get the Profs on the board.

MacNair made it 5-2 with her two-out RBI double to plate Grace Shukaitis.

Lutz struck out five with just two walks and one hit in four-plus innings of work to nab the win.

Against Endicott, Melvin was 3-for-3 with three stolen bases and a run scored. Kaitlyn Riggs added two hits while Devyn DiPasquale went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Emily August picked up the win in the circle, going four innings, yielding two runs (one earned) on just two hits with four walks and two K's. Lutz tossed three shutout innings in relief to nail down the save.

After the Gulls scored an unearned run in the bottom of the first, Rowan countered with two in the second. Riggs led off with a single then Thomas followed with a double to put runners on second and third. A fly out to right from Liz McCaffery drew a throw home but it was misplayed by the catcher, allowing Riggs to come home. DiPasquale later knocked in Thomas on an RBI single for a 2-1 edge.

The Profs took advantage of another Endicott error in the third to cross another unearned run. Melvin led off the frame with a base hit, then stole second. Morgan Zane popped out in foul territory on the first base side, but Melvin was able to tag to get to third. The throw to third was off the mark, allowing a run to cross.

Endicott cut the lead to one with an RBI double in the third.

August worked out of a jam in the fourth with runners on the corners and one out, getting two pop ups to end the inning. A two-out walk in the seventh, followed by a passed ball put the tying run on second, but Lutz induced a grounder to third to end it.

On Wednesday, Rowan will continue play in Florida with games against Salve Regina (9:30 a.m.) and Wheaton (11:45 a.m.), weather depending.
