GALLOWAY, NJ – Rowan rallied from a 19-point second-half deficit, but Stockton was able to hold on in the final minutes and earn a 95-91 win in the NJAC Men's Basketball Championship game. The Profs will now await the possibility of an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament, with the selections being announced on Monday at 12:30 p.m.
The loss ended an eight-game winning streak for the second-seeded Profs (23-5). Rowan (23-5), which had its eight-game winning streak come to an end, was led by
Damian Smith, who scored a career-high 21 points, with 14 in the second half as the Profs made their comeback.
Andrew Seager had 19 and
Marcellus Ross scored 18, with 16
in the second half.
D'Andre Vilmar and
Arian Azemi chipped in 11 points apiece.
The Profs took their first lead of the game, 78-77, with 8:35 to play as Seager hit a turnaround jumper at 8:40, capping a 25-8 run over a seven-minute span.
Stockton went on an 11-0 run to push its lead back to 90-82 with over five minutes to play. But the Profs weren't done and outscored Stockton, 9-2, to trail by just a point, 92-91, after a bucket by Seager with one minute remaining.
After a free throw, Stockton led, 93-91, setting the stage for the Profs' last possession with 22 seconds to go. An out-of-bounds gave them another chance with 13.3 on the clock, and Azemi's layup attempt was blocked. Stockton's D.J. Campbell secured the win with a pair of free throws at :06.
Rowan trailed by 19 points, 72-53, at 15:51 of the second half, but scored 11 straight, with Ross netting nine of them, to cut it to 72-64. Ross made two more threes, and a free throw to bring the Profs within 76-71 with over 11 minutes to play.

Stockton came out hot at the start and proceeded to make its first 10 shots, staking a 26-17 lead in the first seven minutes. The Ospreys built it up to 36-24 as made 8-of-10 threes in the first 10 minutes, but Rowan fought back with a 14-2 run to tie the game, 38-38, at 5:33 on a layup by Azemi. The Profs couldn't pull ahead and Stockton answered with eight straight points to go up, 46-38.
The home team finished out the half scoring six in a row to take a 56-45 lead at the break. The Ospreys finished the half hitting 60 percent from three-point range making 12-of-20, while Rowan shot 45 percent from the field but made only 2-of-12 threes.
Stockton finished the game making 15 three-pointers (53.6%) while the Profs hit 9-of-30.
