Dakota Adams had 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Rowan women's basketball team to a 70-53 win over Ramapo in a conference game today at Esby Gym. The Profs are now 15-8 (12-4 NJAC) as they head into final week of the regular season.
It was the fourth straight double-double of the season for Adams and her 10th in the last 12 games. She also added three blocks in the win.
Kristina Johnson was the only other Prof in double figures with 12 points as she converted 3-of-4 shots from the field.
Savanna Holt was a perfect 4-for-4 in her field goal attempts and finished with eight points.
Leading 57-47 at the start of the fourth quarter, Rowan eventually put it away, going on an 11-0 run and holding Ramapo (8-11; 5-10) without a basket for four minutes to take a 68-47 lead with over three minutes to play.
Rowan held a 16-15 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Profs started to open things up in the second. Tied at 17-17, Rowan scored seven straight points, with five from Johnson, to take a 24-17 lead. The Profs then scored seven more in a row, helped by a three-pointer from Johnson, and expanded their advantage to 34-22. Baskets by Holt and
Jazlyn Duverglas put the Profs up by 14 points and they took a 38-26 lead into intermission.
In the third quarter, Ramapo cut its deficit to six points, but Rowan would maintain a 49-38 lead after three periods.
Rowan took advantage of 26 Ramapo turnovers and outscored the visitors in fast break points, 24-8.
The Profs close out the regular season on Wednesday when they host Montclair State at 5:30 p.m. on "Senior Night" at Esby Gym.
The NJAC Championship will include all 10 teams this season and begin on February 19 when the four lowest seeds will play first-round games. The higher seeds will host all games throughout the tournament and the quarterfinals will be played on Tuesday, February 22 with the semifinals set for Thursday, February 24. The NJAC Championship games will be played on Saturday, February 26. The NJAC champion will earn the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
