Volleyball Ready for NCAA Tournament Opener vs. Cortland on Thursday

Profs, Red Dragons square off Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Juniata in a first-round matchup

GLASSBORO, NJ -- The Rowan Volleyball Team will be in action on Thursday in the first round of the Division III Tournament as the Profs will take on Cortland at 5:30 p.m. on the campus of Juniata.

Rowan enters the tournament with a 24-6 overall record and as the fifth seed in the regional site, fresh off its back-to-back NJAC Championship win last weekend. The team will make its fifth appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

The Red Dragons will be making its second-straight NCAA Division III tournament appearance and 26th overall, where they are the fourth seed. Cortland punched its ticket with a five-set win over Brockport to win the SUNYAC Title for the 21st time in program history.

The Cortland/Rowan winner will face either top-seeded Juniata (28-1) or eighth-seeded Keene State (13-14) in the second round on Friday, Nov. 11, at 7 p.m. Juniata and Keene State will play Thursday at 8 p.m. Thursday's other first-round matchups feature third-seeded Christopher Newport (21-13) versus sixth-seeded Morrisville (23-7) at 12:30 p.m. and second-seeded Ithaca (24-4) versus seventh-seeded Alfred State (21-6) at 3 p.m., with those two winners meeting Friday at 4:30 p.m.

The Profs feature the 2022 NJAC Player of the Year in Natalie Ogden who leads the team in kills (354), kills per set (3.50) and double doubles (14, kills & digs). Ogden joins Brooke Adams as a first-team All-NJAC selection as well as Isabel Kirchner, a second-team pick, in leading the charge. Ogden is one of seven seniors on the team, who head coach Deana Jespersen will lean on for their postseason experience. Jespersen, who won her second-straight NJAC Coach of the Year award, is in her ninth season at the helm of the women's volleyball program.

Cortland features Zoe Staats who leads the team with with 286 kills (3.0 per set) and boasts a .333 attack percentage, and Allie Sturgess who has recorded 245 kills (2.6 per set).

The two teams met here in Glassboro on Friday, October 28th with Cortland coming away with a 3-0 score.

The regional final is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 12 at 5 p.m., and the regional champion will advance to the "elite eight" in Pittsburgh, Pa., Wednesday through Saturday, Nov. 16-19.
