GALLOWAY, NJ -- Rowan defeated Stockton, 61-53, Tuesday night as the Profs won its New Jersey Athletic Conference opener.
Rowan broke it open in the second quarter, outscoring the Ospreys, 23-15, while shooting 60% in that stanza. Kate Herhily's three-pointer was the catalyst for a 9-0 run to start the period en route to a 34-20 edge at halftime.
Stockton climbed within three points late in the third after a bucket from Emma Morrone made it a 41-38 game. The Profs never led by less than eight points in the final quarter to help notch the victory on the road.
Eliana Santana led the offense with 11 points as 12 Profs registered on the stat sheet. Defensively, Santana and
Ayanna Johnson pulled down eight rebounds apiece while
Danielle McCurdy had three of the team's eight blocked shots.
Morrone totaled a game-high 14 points for Stockton, who suffered its first loss of the season. Adriyana Jennings and Madison LaRosa each kicked in 10 for the home team.
The Profs welcome Salisbury to Esbjornson Gymnasium on Saturday for the home opener. Tipoff is slated for 3 p.m.
