#23 Women's Soccer Moves on to NJAC Championship with a 1-0 Semifinal Win over #21 TCNJ

2022 NJAC Tournament Semifinal

GLASSBORO, NJ -- #23 Rowan took down, #21 TCNJ, 1-0, Wednesday night in a semifinal contest of the 2022 New Jersey Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Tournament.

The Profs move on to the NJAC Championship on Saturday at Montclair State, who outlasted Rutgers-Camden in penalty kicks, in a 1 p.m. start.

Ava Morales scored her second goal of the season in the 69th minute and goalie Calista Burke recorded five saves for her 12th shutout as Rowan will play for a conference crown for the second year in a row. Last season, it was the Lions edging out the Profs in penalty kicks in the title game.

The first half saw both teams attempt a total of eight shots. Rowan had a good look in the 28th minute as a cross into the box was redirected by TCNJ keeper Corinne Byrum, but right to the foot of Nina Carlson where her shot from 15 feet went over the crossbar.

In the 59th minute, Natalie Pantalone got a good piece on a header off a corner kick into the box, but again, Byrum kept things scoreless.

The corner kick connection finally broke through with 21:24 remaining in the contest as Sarah Bergan's corner kick was sought out by Morales who headed one low through traffic to put the home team ahead.

Burke made three of her five saves in the second half. Her stop on a similar corner kick-header combo with just over five minutes left was the final chance for the Lions as the Profs collected its 13th clean sheet of 2022.
