GLASSBORO, NJ –
Ava Morales and
Olivia Giordano scored second-half goals to give Rowan a 2-0 win over Rutgers-Newark in NJAC women's soccer action under rain and windy conditions. The shutout is the Profs' third consecutive in conference play as they improve their record to 7-0-2 (3-0 NJAC).
Goalkeeper
Calista Burke and the Rowan defense stifled Rutgers-Newark (6-6-3; 2-1), as the Scarlet Raiders could manage only one shot on the evening, and Burke had one save, while the Profs dominated, taking 15 shots.
Rowan got on the board three minutes into the second half generated by a corner kick that
Sarah Bergan sent to Morales, who scored at close range for her first goal of the year.
The Profs held the 1-0 lead and maintained the pressure, even during a stretch of torrential rain. Rowan got the insurance goal at 63:07 when the Giordano sisters teamed up as Juliana sent a pass to Olivia on the left side and she put it past Rutgers-Newark keeper Katie McLaughlin, who needed to make six saves on the evening.
Rowan remains home and will host 10th-ranked Montclair State in a first-place showdown on Saturday at 1 p.m.
