Volleyball Knocked Off by Cortland, 3-0

GLASSBORO, NJ -- Rowan fell to Cortland, 3-0, Friday evening as the Profs suffered its first home loss of the season. Set scores were 25-21, 25-21, and 25-23.

The Profs hitting was limited to a season-low .049 (27-22-102) output. Natalie Ogden had a team-high eight kills. Vanessa Hutchinson (5) and Dani Emrich (4) led the way in aces while Simone Sparano had 13 digs and Brooke Adams doled out 24 assists. The four aces for Emrich were a career best.

In set one, the Red Dragons led 10-2 before the Profs fired back with a 12-2 run to take a two-point lead. Later with the teams tied at 20-20, Cortland put the home team on the ropes with four points in a row before closing it out to win the first set.

The second set saw each team trade scoring patches with the last coming from the visitors as Cortland erased a 19-16 deficit to lead 24-19 thanks to eight points in a row. In the third set, the Profs tried to rally from an early hole, getting five-straight points with back-to-back aces from Emrich in that stretch to pull within 21-18. The Red Dragons held off a late charge for a 25-23 win in the third set and claim the victory.

Zoe Staats (12 kills) and Giovanna Rossi (10 kills) reached double figures for Cortland.

In Friday's other match, Salisbury took down Nazareth in three sets.

Rowan continues play tomorrow in its home quad match with the first match of day pitting the Profs against Nazareth starting at 10 a.m.
