#1 Field Hockey Earns NJAC Regular-Season Title After 3-1 Win at Montclair State

MONTCLAIR, NJ – The top-ranked Rowan field hockey team scored three straight second-half goals to record a 3-1 win over Montclair State, and clinch the NJAC regular-season championship. Julia Patrone had a goal and an assist, with Amber Powell and Vanessa DiDonato each adding a goal as the Profs improve to 15-1 and 5-0 in the conference.

Rowan needed to come from behind as Montclair State took a 1-0 lead early in the second quarter, at 16:38.

Powell tied the game as she scored from in front of the cage at 39:35, for the first goal of her career.

Patrone's goal at 49:41 would be the eventual gamewinner, as the sophomore tallied her team-best 18th goal of the season.

DiDonato added the insurance goal just two minutes later off a pass from Patrone.

Rowan dominated offensively, taking 28 shots in the game to just three from Montclair State and also held a commanding 21-5 advantage in corners. Prof goalkeeper Abby Hainsworth needed to make two saves in the victory.

The Profs will play a non-conference game on Wednesday, October 26, when they visit Elizabethtown, before closing out the regular season at home on October 29 against Ramapo.
