#2 Field Hockey Uses Balanced Effort to Defeat Widener, 5-1

Profs get goals from five different players

CHESTER, PA – Second-ranked Rowan used a balanced scoring effort to record a 5-1 win at Widener, in non-conference field hockey action this evening to improve its record to 13-0.

The Profs didn't waste any time getting on the board, as freshman Sidney Pavlishin opened the scoring just three minutes in when she took a pass from Vanessa DiDonato.

Rowan then scored three goals in a span of two minutes to open up a 4-0 lead. Kristiina Castagnola converted her fourth penalty stroke of the season in as many attempts at 22:44, for her 13th goal of the year, followed by an unassisted goal from Julia Cavicchio at 23:25 that originated from a corner. Julia Patrone added the next with her team-high 16th goal of the year at 24:18.

Freshman defender Tess Herman posted her second goal of the season to push Rowan's lead to 5-0 in the third quarter.

Widener, which had only three shots in the game, got one past the Rowan defense for the lone goal at 47:57.

Rowan dominated, outshooting the Pioneers, 25-3. Prof goalkeeper Abby Hainsworth made two saves in the contest, with Widener's Lily Rejrat and Abby Blake combining to make nine saves.

The Profs resume NJAC play and look to improve on their 3-0 conference record when they visit #8 Kean (10-2) in a Top 10 showdown on Saturday.
