GALLOWAY, NJ -- Rowan put up a 24-point fourth quarter but came up just short in a 67-64 defeat at Stockton Wednesday evening.
The Profs battled back from a deficit as high as 18 points to get within a final possession with just 1.7 seconds left but a late three-point attempt did not fall.
Dakota Adams and
Eliana Santana each had double doubles as a total of four Profs hit for double figures. Adams totaled 17 points and 12 rebounds, both team highs, while Santana poured in 12 points and 11 boards.
Nicole Mallard went for 11 points with
Grace Marshall adding in 10.
For Stockton, Madison LaRosa led all scorers with 22 points. Emma Morrone (14 points) and Jordyn Madigan (12 points) also reached double digits. LaRosa and Madigan connected on eight of the team's nine three-pointers with four apiece.
Down nine heading into the second quarter, Rowan saw the deficit rise to a 36-20 Osprey lead at the half. But in the third, the Profs shot just under 43% in the frame to help get the lead down to 12. The team found its groove to start the fourth, going on a 14-2 run. Marshall's bucket with 4:30 remaining tied the game at 54-54.
Later in the frame, Madigan hit two big three's to help the home team. Her first came with 1:41 left for a four-point lead (58-54) and her second broke a 58-58 tie with 50 ticks.
Santana's putback after a missed three attempt from Marshall cut it to a three-point contest with four seconds showing. After a foul to send Stockton to the free-throw line, both attempts from Morrone were no good. Adams grabbed the rebound off the second attempt and called timeout with 1.7 on the clock. One last look from Santana on a last-second shot did not go as the Profs suffer their third NJAC loss on the season.
Rowan looks to bounce back on Saturday when William Paterson visits Esbjornson Gymnasium in a 1 p.m. tip.
